About Flute Boot Camp
Flute Boot Camp is a project for the master's degree program of American Band College of Central Washington University and was created by master's candidate Geoffrey D. Summers. The mission of Flute Boot Camp is to help beginning flute players master the fundamental skills necessary to be successful in their school ensembles.
About the Author
Geoffrey D. Summers is currently director of instrumental music education at Benton Visual and Performing Arts Middle School in La Mirada, CA, where he teaches concert band, string orchestra, percussion ensemble, and jazz band.
In addition to being an experienced teacher of instrumental music, Geoff is an active musician, appearing on several recordings and touring the United States and Europe.
Formerly, Geoff was an elementary instrumental music teacher with Linden Public Schools in Linden, NJ, assistant director and design team coordinator with the Morris Knolls high school marching band in Rockaway, NJ, and co-director of percussion education for the Jersey Surf World Class Drum Corps from Mount Holly, NJ. Geoff has also worked with George Mason University (Fairfax, VA), East Coast Jazz (Malden, MA), Carmel High School (Carmel, IN), Old Bridge High School (Old Bridge, NJ), and King Philip High School (Wrentham, MA), among others.
Geoff earned his bachelor’s degree in Music Business and Management from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and his teaching credentials from St. Peter’s University in Jersey City, NJ, and Whittier College in Whittier, CA. He lives with his wife Rosemary and dog Rosie and when he's not doing something music related you can usually find him in the kitchen.
